the internet bustedness of the year award goes to.......
our favorite `Toriphile:' ``There is a techno group that is known for their wonderful remixes of delerium, sarah maclachlan, and bt's blue skies. they are rabbit in the moon. they have released their own single entitled "O.B.E." the song is very mellow but about 2 minutes into the song, you can hear the beginning of precious things sampled. it is amazing to hear it. it is available on a cd called "URBAL BEATS" which you can get at any large record store [In The U.S.]''
you can come back out now, g.

the site of the mugging
with half an hour left of our sojourn in st. petserburg, it was here that it transpired. three russian men, a knife, and me, thinking they'd stolen my ipod.
not trying to be heroic, or anything, i try to give chase. luckily, my boss hustles me into a coffee shop - ``don't do anything, they're armed!'
also luckily, it was HIS ipod they swiped.
STOP
welcome to st. petersburg. the pearl of the baltic.
on a trip that included a mugging, titty bars and more vodka hangovers than you could shake a stick at, our first encounter was being pulled over in the cab on the way from the airport.
the policeman led the taxi driver out of sight. we could have sworn we heard screams.

isn't it pretty?
still not sure this visa for a limited time only to st. petersburg was worth the interminable wait, the impenetrable red tape or the unprompted rudeness from the russian bureaucrats.
highlight of the exchange with the man expressly tasked with facilitating my application:
me: what documents will i need to present to apply for the visa?
russian press officer: i don't know what documents you need, i've never had to apply for a russian visa
fair enough. but i'm counting myself lucky, my boss is still empty-handed
